Kingsville Drops Industrial Development Fees

The Town of Kingsville is hoping to attract new industrial jobs by eliminating charges for developers.

Mayor Nelson Santos says the town has limited space for industrial development.

He says the town is now focused on filling a 50 acre lot in an established area in Ruthven. "We felt over the next two years, it would be a good opportunity to offer an incentive for industry to come to our community, be able to invest with their business as well as potential local jobs in the economy," says Santos.

Santos says waiving development fees for industrial properties won't be a huge loss as the large majority of last year's construction was residential. "When we look at industry, we only collected $21,000 in development charges last year. We would be able to recover that $21,000 with just new taxation levels and new rates that they would be paying," says Santos. "It provides a greater economic engine and certainly a greater economic benefit."

Santos says the town has already received a number of calls from developers about this new industrial incentive.
