An entrepreneur from Windsor is trying help solve landlord-tenant issues by providing a place for both sides to vet each other.
Margaret Cichosz grew up in Windsor and went to school in Waterloo.
Co-founder Cichosz says the new website Apartmint is a solution to the growing problem of trouble tenants and lazy landlords. "One of my tenants was moving out of a townhouse and they left all of their furniture, didn't take out the garbage for weeks, they wrote on the walls," says Cichosz. "Lets try to fix this because this is definitely a problem that a lot of landlords face."
As both a landlord and a tenant herself, Cichosz says rental disputes are a huge problem. "I don't think the laws are very favourable to landlords and I think creating a site like this that holds both tenants and landlords accountable, hopefully that causes a shift in legislation or in policy changes to make sure that both sides of the spectrum are heard."
Cichosz says you can rate rental units on Apartmint and soon will be able to do the same for individual tenants.
The website is currently only open for residents in Windsor, Waterloo and Toronto.
