The province is taking part in Windsor's annual emergency operations training exercise.

The City of Windsor gets together with officials from police, fire, social services, Enwin and others every year to practice what to do in case of a city-wide emergency.

Windsor Fire Spokesperson John Lee says an inquiry into a mall collapse in Elliot Lake is what's spurred extra interest from the province. "The Ontario Fire Marshal Emergency Management is here. I think there are about 30 people from that organization attending. The urban search and rescue team from Toronto and the emergency response team from OPP are also here."

The scenario, which started Tuesday morning, is played out over the course of three days and involves a major earthquake hitting Windsor-Essex.

The Emergency Operations Centre downtown is in use during the training. The old GM Transmission Plant is also being used this year.
