Elected Amherstburg Officials Wage Freeze

Amherstburg council may be going the next term of council without a raise.

A town committee is recommending Amherstburg's mayor, deputy mayor and councillors have their wages frozen over the current term of council.

It would mean mayor Aldo D'Carlo will earn $27,000 this year, Deputy Mayor Bart DiPasquale will make $18,000 and the councillors will each earn $16,000. The amounts are several thousand dollars lower than the county average.

Expenses are also being trimmed, with per diems for some extra conferences being cut from the budget.

Despite the changes, the overall council budget will be higher this year because of an increase in the number of meetings and training sessions.
