Police Canvass Near Murder Scene (Video)

Windsor police are asking residents in the neighbourhood surrounding the Cassandra Kaake homicide for DNA samples.

Sergeant Matt D'asti says it's part of canvassing work being done by teams of detectives today in the Benjamin Ave. and Hanna St. area, as a number of items from the crime scene have been sent to Toronto for analysis. "We have nothing at this point to give any conclusion that there is DNA that has been identified," explains D'asti. "But we definitely want to be prepared in case Toronto comes back and says, 'Windsor police, we have identified some DNA."

More than a month has passed since the initial incident, so Windsor police are again reminding the public to come to them with any information about Kaake. D'asti says even something someone might know about the soon-to-be-mother that they might think is insignificant can end up giving police a lead.

Windsor police aren't sure exactly when they'll be getting results back from labs in Toronto, but analyzing those results and looking into tips from the public will be the next steps in the homicide investigation.
