Leamington Grower Expands Into Ohio

Nature Fresh Farms in Leamington is investing $200,000 into a 15-acre greenhouse operation in Delta, Ohio.

Owner Peter Quiring hopes to get work underway on phase one soon. The project includes seven stages and will eventually grow tomatoes, cucumbers and peppers.

Meanwhile, work is already underway to expand the company’s operations in Leamington. Quiring says the 30-acre expansion will employ between 50 and 60 workers and work could be done by the end of this year or early 2016.

Quiring has expressed concern in the past about hydro capacity in the southern end of Essex County and its impact on future greenhouse expansion, but he doesn’t believe it will hamper the expanded operation. “I don’t think it will, no. This project will go ahead regardless,” he says. “But, it’s still very much a concern.”

Quiring also says there’s a drastic shortage of skilled trades workers. He’s looking for several different trades including electrician, fabricators and welders.
