New Station 2 Open

Windsor Fire and Rescue Services is taking calls out of its new fire hall.

Firefighters moved into Station 2 on Monday and had their first full day of operation out of the new building yesterday.

Windsor Fire Chief Bruce Montone says Station 2 is operating under a temporary setup until the relocation of stations is complete, with the next one likely to be the airport station moving to the area of the 6th Concession and Provincial Rd.

"Once that's in place then we'll be in a better position to put all of the aparatus sort of in their final resting place. That process has begun for that new station, so we're hoping maybe by year-end or at least this time next year we'll be fully functional as we had originally planned," says Montone. "Ultimately, when everything is in place, you will have an aerial device and an engine there. Right now you have two engines, but it's a temporary thing until some of the other stations are built."

The new Station 2 on Milloy St. and Chandler Rd. consolidates stations in Walkerville and east Windsor as part of the city's efforts to adhere to an arbitration ruling.
