Funding Not Expected This Year

Don't expect to see provincial funding for the construction of Windsor's proposed new acute care hospital in this year's provincial budget.

Windsor Regional Hospital CEO David Musyj says with more than 20 sites to choose from and 34 criteria to evaluate them on, figuring out where to locate the new hospital will be a long and complicated process.

"Each member of the site selection committee has to individually score each of these properties," he says. "That's close to 700 criteria. And then they get together as a group and come up with a consensus score for each of the criteria for each of the properties."

Musyj says in May or June, the committee overseeing the project will file an application for Stage 1B funding from the province. The provincial government isn't expected to commit that money until it announces its 2016 budget.
