Police Contract Running Out

Amherstburg police are looking for a new contract in 2015.

Their current four-year deal runs out on January 1, and Vice Chair of the Amherstburg Police Service Board Frank Cleminson says they haven't talked with the police association since last year. "As you can understand, there's been an election year, as well as the transition with a new mayor and council appointment. At this time, we're trying to finalize and bring the new members of the board up to speed."

Cleminson explains that the final board members will be appointed at council meetings in January.

Seeing as a new contract will not be written by the current agreement's end date, the board vice chair says officers will continue to get the same wages and benefits that they've been getting through their current deal.
