UPDATE: Fatal Fire Investigated As Homicide (GALLERY)

A woman's death is now being treated as a homicide after her body was found by firefighters in a duplex in Windsor.

Fire crews were called to the 1500-block of Benjamin Ave. around 2:45am on Thursday in response to a fire. Fire officials then notified police after discovering the body of the 31-year-old woman inside of the duplex.

Sergeant Matt D’asti says police cannot provide many details at this point in time as the investigation is in its early stages.  Damage is estimated at $60,000.

"It's still really preliminary at this point," he says. "It's in its initial phases and I know our detectives are putting their boots to the ground and their conducting canvases and conducting interviews."

The Windsor Police Major Crimes Unit is investigating the death and a postmortem examination will be conducted Friday morning at London Health Sciences Centre.
