Keeping The Homeless Warm

Hundreds of homeless people in Windsor will have brand new winter boots and coats to wear, thanks to a donation to Street Help Unit 7 from Unifor Local 444.

The union teamed up with Canadian Tire in Amherstburg to drop off about $8,000 worth of outdoor goods this week.

Administrator at Street Help Christine Wilson-Furlonger says they serve about 200 people every day. "We've already had other agencies even asking us if they could have some of the coats and boots that we have, and that was before we even got this donation. So I'm sure we'll have a lot more people knocking on our door too."

Furlonger adds that monetary donations are also welcome, as those are actually down from where they were at this time last year, and they need money for simple things like paying rent.
