Medical Marijuana Bylaw Gets Approval

Lakeshore's new medical marijuana zoning bylaw now has council approval.

The ammendment to the town's official plan was approved at a special meeting on November 4. Council approved the ammendment at its meeting Tuesday night.

Lakeshore Mayor Tom Bain says there's still a 21 day appeal process for the bylaw.

"Any of the companies who wish to grow [medical] marijuana on agricultural lands would have a chance to appeal it, go to the OMB or coming in [to townhall] and requesting rezoning on their agricultural property," says Bain. "Now that we've got the regulations, we're able to make anyone coming forward aware of those regulations."

The bylaw limits medical marijuana production to industrial zones, while hemp production is permitted in both industrial and agricultural areas.
