Young Women Exploring New Paths

More than 100 young women in Windsor-Essex are discovering more about non-traditional careers today.

Six different high schools are involved in a junior achievement event at the Caboto Club, where 16 women mentors from various industries are speaking to the girls.

LaSalle firefighter and CNC machinist Nicole Fields says educating these young women is extremely important. "If they don't know what's out there and what their opportunities are, then how are they going to get the chance to try something different? So I keep encouraging them -- if they have a tech course, take it. Just see if they like it, because if I wouldn't have tried my Grade 9 tech course, I would have never known that I could do something like that."

The mentors were chosen from industries that are in demand here in Windsor-Essex, so the girls know that they don't have to go far to find work in these industries.
