Public Board Holds Off On ARC

The Greater Essex County District School Board is deferring a decision on an accommodation review for five schools until newly elected trustees have a chance to see the report.

General Amherst, Kingsville District High School, Western Secondary, Harrow High School and Harrow Public School are part of administration's recommended review.

Chair of the board, Julia Burgess, finds the timing of the recommendation odd since the Harrow and Kingsville family of schools recently had accommodation reviews.

"You have a community that has undergone an unresolved PARC that is only two years old and it has yet to be fully implemented, so it's an unusual circumstance," says Burgess. "There are many more schools where we can make efficiencies as well, so as superintendent [Todd] Awender said, this is just the first part. There is a strategic plan behind this, so I'm more interested in knowing the bigger picture."

The report is set to be back before trustees on December 9. Trustees will also see the outline of a boundary review process for Hetherington Public School, Princess Elizabeth Public School and Dr. David Suzuki Public School.
