Abduction Attempt A Hoax

Windsor police say a 17-year-old girl lied about being taken away in a pick-up truck earlier this week.

The reason? Her date was running late. The girl admitted the truth Friday morning during a police interview. Sgt. Mark Denonville says the girl dropped off her child with a relative to go out with someone she met online. When the date ran late, her relative texted her asking where she was. That's when she came up with the abduction story.

"She had watched media reports," says Denonville. "She could see how much the public was upset about this incident."

On Wednesday, police launched an investigation after the girl said she had been forced into a pick-up truck by a male, before escaping from the vehicle at a red light. Denonville adds the girl will not face charges.
