Ceremonial shovels hit the ground today to mark the beginning of the construction of the new St. Bernard School in east Windsor.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board recently received formal word of ministry approval of the land swap between the city and the board that will see the new school be built at Long Park.

St. Bernard School Principal Elise Daragon says the new building will offer students more opportunities. “Being in a building that is traditional in a sense and built many years ago there’s just a lot of zones where WiFi and wireless cannot be accessed. Going forward into a new building just offers so much more, on what we learned and the whole student engagement piece.”

The school board will now issue an RFP to hire an architect and construction firm to build the new school. A schedule for completion has not been set.
