Windsor To Host Pan-Am Torch

The torch for next year’s Pan Am Games in Toronto will be travelling through Windsor.
Olympic Boxer Mary Spencer says it’s an honour to have the torch, as the games play such a big part in who goes to the next Summer Games in 2016. “It is, I believe, the third largest sporting event (in the world). It’s bigger than the Winter Olympics. It only falls being the Summer Olympics and the Asian Games. So the best athletes from North and South America are going to be here in our province.”
The games are set for July of next year. Windsor’s torch relay dates will be announced in February.
In the meantime, you can apply online to take part in the relay at www.toronto2015.org/torch-relay.
Spencer is fighting for the national women’s boxing title later this month in hopes of making the Pan Am Games, where she took gold in 2011 on her way to the Olympic Games in London.
