Coach Wants Bounce Back Performance

Coming off their worst defeat of the season, the Windsor Spitfires battle Saginaw tonight at the WFCU Centre. The Spits were hammered 9-2 by Sarnia on Saturday.

Head coach Bob Boughner is looking for a much higher ‘compete level’ from his team when the puck drops against the Spirit tonight at 7:05pm.

“We talked a lot about how we beat ourselves (against Sarnia),” says Boughner. “When things start not going very well for you, you still have to stick to your team’s systems and plan, and eventually things will work out. We all got off on a different page and that’s what happens; you have one or two of those (lopsided defeats) a year and hopefully that’s the last one of those.”

Windsor dropped a 4-1 decision to the Spirit earlier this month but Boughner says they deserved a better fate.

“We actually outchanced them and got 40-plus shots on net,” says Boughner. “They had Jake Paterson, who’s a Red Wings draft-pick, in the net and he was the difference that night. We have to find a way to get to him early and get some traffic in front of him and try and create some offence in the first period.”
