The Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation says housing starts jumped 34% in Windsor last month over September 2013.

Construction started on 82 homes compared to 61 in the same month last year.

So far this year, ground has broken on 590 units, an increase of 21% over the same period in 2013.

The local numbers contradict provincial statistics that show a 12% drop in housing starts over September last year. Nationally, housing starts broke even.
