Just Short Of Nobel Prize
Windsor native Dr. Stephen Scherer has come up short of winning a Nobel Prize to a US-British scientist and a Norwegian husband and wife.
The Riverside Secondary School graduate was nominated for his research on the genetic underpinnings of autism spectrum disorder.
He finished behind a team that discovered cells that make up a positioning system in the brain.
Scherer is now director of the Centre for Applied Genomics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto. His team has shown that about 10% of children with autism have only one copy of a specific gene.
