New Multi-Sport Field Request

The Essex Ravens and Essex Hurricane Soccer Club are looking to build a large inflatable dome to house a multi-purpose field.

They’ve entered the Aviva Insurance grant competition, looking for $100,000. Essex Ravens President Glen Mills says it would cover the majority of the cost. “That would cover the cost basically of buying the dome. We’re approaching town council for the land. Footings and to put turf in there would likely be covered by ourselves and the soccer program.”

Mills will be in front of council Monday night looking for a land commitment from the town, possibly the site of the current Essex Memorial Arena. The group had originally asked for the arena to be fixed up, but Mills says they’ve abandoned that idea in favour of this proposal.

According to Mills, the only other similar facility is the Dominion Golf Dome in Windsor, which he says is booked solid.
