Being Mayor For The Day

In six Windsor-Essex municipalities, the mayor will look much more youthful, at least for one day.

Those communities are partnering with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex for Mayor For The Day.

Executive Director John Sutton calls it a great mentoring opportunity. “They’re going to be able to ask questions and see what the behind the scenes work looks like in a municipality,” he says. “So, hopefully they’ll get that sense of community and get the sense that they’re important and that they’re valued, and they have a voice.”

He adds the agency could always use volunteers. Sutton says when he started his career with Big Brothers Big Sisters in 2008; the agency was serving just over 270 children. Last year, that grew to more than 550 and this year enrolment is expected to exceed 600.
