Innovative Hockey Program Starts Up

A new program that balances hockey skills with academic skills is underway at Corpus Christi Catholic Middle School and F.J. Brennan Secondary School.

About 90 students are enrolled in the Windsor-Essex Catholic District School Board’s first-ever Innovations Hockey Canada Skills Academy.

Students like Michael Douglas, who is in Grade 11 this year, start their day at Central Park Athletics. “I get to wake up in the morning and look forward to stepping on the ice with friends and top of the line instructors instead of waking up and going to class in the morning.” The second half of his day consists of math and law classes.

Eventually, Douglas hopes to earn a university hockey scholarship.
