Title Hopes Fading For Stars
The Windsor Stars are falling behind in the League1 Ontario title race.
The Stars fell 3-1 at home at McHugh Park to the Woodbridge Strikers on Saturday night.
Defender Chris Suta had the lone goal for the Stars while former Toronto FC midfielder Oscar Cordon scored twice for the Strikers.
Dropping points at home means the Stars lost the chance to move into a tie for 4th place with the Strikers, who instead widen the gap between 4th and 5th place in the standings. The Strikers have 22 points while the Stars are behind with 16 points, but have a game in hand.
The Stars still have a chance at the inaugural League1 Ontario title playing five of their remaining six games against the teams they’re chasing. The Stars hold between a game and two games in hand on all those teams at the top except for Toronto FC Academy. Vaughan Azzurri currently leads the league with 25 points.
