UofW Faculty Vote In Favour of Strike Mandate
Members of the University of Windsor’s Faculty Association have voted 81.4% in favour of a strike mandate.
The mandate, which was voted upon Thursday afternoon, comes after administration imposed terms and conditions last month. The mandate will allow the union membership to take strike action if it is needed.
President of the faculty association Anne Forrest says the union has to consider the best way to utilize the strike mandate “respectfully, carefully but also effectively.”
“What we’ve been saying over and over again is that we absolutely (don’t) want a strike,” she says. “We want to send a message to administration that they have to bargain with us, and not with our members individually. And they need to take us seriously.”
Forrest says the union expects to know by the end of next week if administration will return to the bargaining table.
