After much speculation, Ward 1 councillor Drew Dilkens is throwing his name into the mix for the mayor’s job in Windsor.

Asked what took him so long to announce his candidacy, Dilkens responded he needed to find out how much support he would have, consult with his family and make arrangements with his employer, McTague Law Firm LLP.

Dilkens says he will build on the success of the previous council by continuing to keep property taxes low, continue investment in the city’s infrastructure, and continue work to diversify the local economy and create new jobs.  He says the city can’t afford a return to the politics of old.

The two-term city councillor is the seventh candidate to file his nomination papers for the upcoming municipal election.  Ernie The Baconman, Timothy Dugdale, Mike Tessier, Raymond Poisson, Larry Horwitz and Robin Easterbrook are also running for mayor.
