Exhibit Planning for Windsor Museum

Planning is underway for the exhibits in the new community museum that will be located on the first floor of the art gallery building on Riverside Dr. W in Windsor.

Consultants are evaluating the city’s collections to decide which stories should be told and how. Lisa Wright with Lord Cultural Consultants says museums these days need to be much more than just static displays. “We really want the stories to drive the design. So we start off hearing about what the stories are that are important to tell, the artifacts to display, we identify those in a written document that’s called the interpretive plan and then we work with the designers to come up with the designs.”

Wright says they are developing a set of recommendations that will be presented at a public open house tonight between 6pm-8pm at 401 Riverside Dr. W.

Construction on the museum must be completed by March 2015 to comply with the government grant while exhibit work is expected to be completed in the fall of 2015.
