Canadians Protesting Detroit Water Shutoffs

About 1,000 L of water is crossing the border today.
The Windsor chapter of the Council of Canadians group is bringing the water in a convoy from Windsor to Detroit as a way to protest thousands of residential service shutoffs by the city’s water department. The rally is planned for outside of Detroit City Hall.
Council national chair Maude Barlow is to ask US president Barack Obama to declare a state of emergency in Detroit over the issue.
The utility says just about $90-million is owed in past due accounts and the suspended shutoffs are meant to be part of an education campaign.
