Windsor’s looking for a CEO to run a new transportation corporation which will oversee operations at the Windsor International Airport, Windsor-Detroit Tunnel and Transit Windsor.

City officials are drawing up a job description now and plan to start the recruitment process soon.

Windsor CAO Helga Reidel says the airport and tunnel will maintain their boards of directors, but the three entities will share the new executive. She says money saved by the new management structure will be reinvested back into services. “Now that council has approved these changes they will implement the new (transit) routes effective September,” she says. “Those routes will carry on into 2015 as we implement these structural changes to provide for at least partial funding of the enhanced transit routes.”

The new structure will be phased in over two years, and any cuts to the number of positions will be through attrition. Reidel says transit general manager Penny Williams has indicated she plans to retire soon; the airport is currently without a CEO, and the head of the Tunnel corporation is a seconded city employee. Some workers will see their job descriptions change, but Reidel says all union positions will remain the same.
