The Greater Essex County District School Board is only offering summer school from one location for city students this year.

In a money saving effort and because of construction at Westview Freedom Academy, summer school will be offered at Tecumseh Vista Academy. In the county, summer school will also be offered at Essex Public School and Leamington District Secondary School.

Superintendent of Education Dan Fister says direct transportation is no longer offered for summer school students. “Within the city boundaries we ask parents and families to either get their students to Tecumseh Vista proper or we are running a shuttle from Tecumseh Mall four times a day to get students to Tecumseh Vista and back throughout the day.”

Around 1,800 students are currently registered for summer school. Fister expects around 1,400 to complete the program.
