Essex Cutting Taxis Fees

The Town of Essex is moving to cut its taxi licensing fees just about in half.

Director of Corporate Services Donna Hunter says they need more cabs licensed in town including in the Colchester and Harrow communities.

“We have some issues with trying to get them licensed. They have complained that our fees our high,” says Hunter. “We want to encourage them to operate. We want to encourage them to meet standards.”

The current licensing fee for taxis is $300 in Essex with the revised fee set at $157.50, half of the $315 it costs the town to issue the licence. The revised fee still needs final council approval.
