Impaired Driver Flees Police

A Windsor man is facing several charges after being in an accident and fleeing from police twice in one night.

The first accident was witnessed by a Windsor police officer at Wyandotte St. E and George Ave. around 9:30pm Thursday night. The Silver SUV fled the scene and the police officer followed but the pursuit was called off around Milloy St. for public safety reasons.

Around 20 minutes later, the vehicle was spotted and blocked by a police vehicle on Huron Church Rd. and Malden Rd. The driver proceeded to accelerate into the side of the cruiser and fled the area.

He was eventually placed under arrest in parking lot in the area of Hill St. and Peter St.

Rafal Christopher Jopek, 35, is facing nine charges including exceeding the blood alcohol limit, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident and failing to stop for police.
