Ekblad Headed To Summer Camp

Hockey Canada says the roster for Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek summer development camp includes Belle River native Aaron Ekblad.

Ekblad, who plays for the Barrie Colts, is one of 12 players chosen for the position of Canadian Hockey League defenceman. The roster also includes four goaltenders and 25 forwards.

Ryan Jankowski, head scout of the men’s Program of Excellence, will continue to monitor players and other potential candidates over the first few months of the upcoming season and decide who will be invited to Canada’s National Junior Team selection camp in December. In all, 22 players will be chosen to represent Canada at the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship in Montreal and Toronto.

A number of the players on the summer roster will also be front and centre at the 2014 NHL Entry Draft later this month in Philadelphia where many could be selected in the first and second rounds.
