Despite the rainy weather, over 70 teams are still participating in this year’s Windsor/LaSalle Relay For Life.

The 24-hour relay kicked off on Friday at the Vollmer Cultural and Recreation Complex in LaSalle, and organizers anticipate over $101,000 will be raised during the event.

Canadian Cancer Society Fundraising Coordinator Wendy German says she finds the relay to be very heartwarming.

“So many people that I encounter in my job are here at the survivors victory lap, so even though it’s my job, it becomes touching and emotional when the survivors victory lap starts,” says German.

During the event, the participating relay teams walk the track at the complex to support those living with cancer, celebrate survivors, and remember those who battled cancer. All funds raised will benefit cancer research done through the Canadian Cancer Society.
