Former Windsor Spitfires forward and Tecumseh-native Kerby Rychel can now focus on becoming a player in the National Hockey League.
His last OHL season was a whirlwind, as the Columbus Blue Jackets prospect was traded from Windsor to Guelph, represented Canada at the World Junior Hockey Championship, and then helped take the Storm to the Memorial Cup final.
Rychel’s taken the last couple weeks to rest, but he believes some hard work this summer will benefit him come time for NHL training camps. “It’s tough for sure, I mean going to camp last year was definitely an eye-opening experience, so I kind of know what to expect now and I think I’m going to be a lot more ready this time.” The 19-year-old plans to stay in the Windsor-Essex region to train over the summer.
In 298 total OHL games played over his four-year career, Rychel amassed 137 goals and 175 assists.
