Suspects At Large In Robbery

Windsor police have one suspect in custody and continue the search for more after a violent robbery downtown.

Around 2am Sunday, June 8, a 23-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman were walking past the Days Inn on Goyeau St. when a group of men started shouting derogatory comments at the woman. At first the couple ignored the men, but the confrontation escalated. The male victim suffered a chipped tooth, split lip and black eye when he was kicked in the face and ribs by several of the men. The woman cut her knee when another suspect grabbed her purse and dragged her out into the street. The group ran off when a driver stopped their vehicle and yelled at the suspects.

During the assault, the woman’s purse was stolen. It later turned up in a garbage bin, but her cellphone and some money are still missing.

On Tuesday, a 15-year-old suspect was charged with robbery and assault causing bodily harm when he turned himself over to police. Police only have the description of one other suspect although they are looking for up to four other black teenaged boys between the ages of 15 and 17 years. The suspect is described as:

– a black male, about 17 years old with short hair

– 5’9″ and 115 lbs

– wearing a red and purple plaid button-down long-sleeved shirt.
