Tourism Up in the Region

TWEPI CEO Gordon Orr, Windsor Councillor Drew Dilkens, Pelee Island Mayor Rick Masse, and Warden Tom Bain kick off Tourism Week.

Tourism officials are encouraging residents to explore their own backyard this summer.

While stay-cations are becoming more popular, statistics show visitors to the region are on the rise with around 3.9-million people visiting the region annually. These visitors bring in $471-million in economic spinoff and support 18,000 jobs regionally.

Chief Executive Officer of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island Gordon Orr says residents should take part in everything the region has to offer. “When you have family and friends visit you this summer, make sure that you bring them out and explore all the wonderful things we have to see and do in this area rather then sit around your kitchen table or in your living room.”

The Ontario Travel Information Centre in downtown Windsor is inviting residents to come into the office to help celebrate Tourism Week until June 8.
