Windsor AKO Fratmen football players are now eligible for the same scholarships that OCAA athletes receive at St. Clair College.

The new partnership is designed to attract players to the Windsor football program, while bringing new students into the school.

AKO Fratmen Owner Mike Morencie says this is the first collaboration of its kind in Canada. “The opportunities are limitless. The ability for us to go into a place like Toronto or into Thunder Bay, or outside the province into Winnipeg, and say, ‘you can come down, you can go to St. Clair College, we can help you with your cost of academics and you can play football while you’re here.’ It’s the best of both worlds.”

The Fratmen won the Ontario Football Conference title last season, but were beat 50-3 in the Canadian Junior Football League semi-finals by the Vancouver Island Raiders. Morencie says there are a lot of high-budget football programs on the west coast, which he wants to be able to compete with, and he thinks this could give Windsor an edge.
