Non-Invite Denied By Debate Organizer

Campaign officials working on Progressive Conservative candidate Henry Lau’s campaign say Lau was never invited to the first all-candidates debate, but organizers say that’s not so.

Lau says his campaign never received an email inviting him to take part in the all-candidates debate at Life After Fifty in Windsor West. “I’m willing to go to every debate if necessary, if I get invited,” he says. “I’d like to be there to meet the voters and share the message and introduce myself to the voters.”

However, Caitlin Shanahan, the manager of communication and development at Life After Fifty, insists an invitation was sent. “We contacted his campaign and we were told that his schedule was completely booked,” says Shanahan. “We were giving each candidate the opportunity to get back to us with some times that would work, and yeah, we were told the Progressive Conservative campaign was choosing not to participate.”

NDP candidate Lisa Gretzky and Liberal MP Teresa Piruzza took part in Friday’s debate.
