Working To Save Riverside Pool
The Greater Essex County District School Board is seeking community groups to come forward with ideas to keep Riverside High school’s pool open.
The pool is slated to close at the end of June, when the school year ends. The board says the facility costs roughly $70,000 a year to operate and needs $500,000 in upgrades for additional seating.
“Maybe the City of Windsor will be interested, but I’m just glad we’re moving forward and at least asking to see if there is any interest,” says Trustee Gail Simko-Hatfield, who brought forward to idea to reach out to other partners. “We haven’t actually heard from students, we’ve heard from parents of kids who are on the swim team who would like to see the pool stay open.”
A group of parents presented trustees with a 150-signature petition to keep the pool open.
