Windsor’s Ride Of SilenceMay 21, 2014 10:20am
Expect to see a hearse followed by a large group of cyclists in the Walkerville area of Windsor tonight.
Bike Friendly Windsor and the city are talking about injuries and deaths that happen as a result of accidents between cars and bikes every year.
Program Development Supervisor Veronica Samek says this is the fifth annual Ride Of Silence, but the first to be held outside of downtown. “It’s about looking at the Walkerville space, where it’s kind of being animated as a more cycle-friendly area. How can we go about changing the other side streets, connecting all the paths, and getting people to understand that we’re on the road to share the road.”
Samek expects between 50 and 70 cyclists to take part in tonight’s ride which starts at 7pm from the Willistead Restaurant on Wyandotte St., travels up Walker Rd. to Tecumseh Rd., down to Parent Ave., up to Riverside Dr. and eventually back to the restaurant. Registration begins at 6pm.
