Health Unit No Show

The City of Windsor is requesting the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit make a visit to council to explain increased expenses and their request for a reserve fund.

A report on council’s agenda Tuesday night was deferred as the health unit did not have a representative present.

Councillor Fulvio Valentinis says councillors need an opportunity to ask questions surrounding the budget. “We’d like to ask them why they had to increase their budget, how they’re spending it, why other alternatives weren’t looked at or if they were looked at and very simply we extended the invitation once again.”

Associate Medical Officer of Health Dr. Gary Kirk sent a letter stating he was unable to attend the meeting but that the additional funding request was required to be fulfilled based on provincial legislation. Dr. Kirk says he is prepared to appear before council regarding the establishment of a reserve fund.
