Looking Back On Two Decades

Caesars Windsor celebrates 20 years since opening as an interim casino today.

CEO Kevin Laforet says the business has seen its share of challenges over the last two decades. “The competition, the border issues and the exchange rate. So we’ve faced a lot of challenges, but we’ve really righted the ship. We had to make a lot of changes. We were over 5,000 employees at one point and we’re around 3,000 right now.”

Laforet says revenue has been slowly going back up over the last couple of years, although the number of visitors to Caesars is still about half of what it was in the early 2000s.

As part of today’s celebration, the casino is donating $130,000 to five local causes: Pathway to Potential’s Market Dollar program, the Glengarry-Marentette Renewal Initiative, the Art Gallery of Windsor’s 2014 Triennial, the Downtown Windsor Farmers’ Market, and the Windsor Essex County Cancer Centre Foundation’s It’s In Your Jeans campaign.
