Role Model John McGivney Dies

A Celebration of Life is planned to remember the man the John McGivney Children’s Centre in Windsor is named for.

John McGivney passed away last Thursday at the age of 91. He began feeling ill two weeks ago and died at Windsor Regional Hospital’s Ouellette Campus.

McGivney was born in Manhattan, New York in 1922 and moved to Windsor after accepting a position as a corporate lawyer for Chrysler Canada. During World War II, he served in the Canadian airforce as a navigator. Much of his life was dedicated to volunteering for a variety of service organizations including the Rotary Club of Windsor, the Windsor Police Commission, and the Windsor Chamber of Commerce.

The Celebration of life is planned for 2pm Tuesday at St.Marks by-the-Lake Church. There’s also an open house at Beach Grove Golf Club from 3:30pm to 6pm.
