Election Bad News For EWSWA
The call of a provincial election is bad news for the Essex Windsor Solid Waste Authority.
The Liberal government had introduced a bill to make amendments to the waste diversion act to direct industry to pay more toward the blue box program.
General Manager Eli Maodus says that would have created a lot of additional revenue for the authority. “Currently there’s $1.6-million that the authority receives in funding from industry and stewards. Obviously you can figure out that if that’s at 50% then 100% would be a large increase and that would help offset a lot of the authority’s net costs of the blue box program.”
Maodus says he is unaware of where other parties stand on the program as the amendment never reached committee level in the House of Commons.
