Opposite Showing For Starts And Sales

Housing starts may be up, but realtors in Windsor-Essex closed fewer deals in April.

The Windsor Essex County Association of Realtors‘ latest report shows another month of slower sales. It says 463 homes changed hands compared to 480 in April 2013, a dip of 3.54%. The year-to-date figures show a steeper decline of 12.95% so far.

There were fewer listings in April too. Those numbers are down 5.1% compared to last April.

Construction on new homes increased 21% last month, consistent with a national increase of 14%. The Canada Housing and Mortgage Corporation says ground broke on 69 homes in April 2014, compared to 57 homes in April 2013.

The year-to-date figures show a different picture with a decrease of 29% in Windsor Essex.
