The Rock ‘N Rodeo is back in Essex County.

Organizer Christine Bernauer says they took last year off in order to make improvements to the rodeo grounds in Cottam. “We’ve brought in tons of dirt to build up the parking lot, build some drainage ditches and things like that, so we can better accomodate bigger events.”

Those big events include professional bull riding and bucking broncos, the Canadian Cowgirls, and a concert by Juno Award winner Brett Kissel. The rodeo, which gets underway May 17, will also feature multiple beer tents, horse drawn wagons and hot air balloon rides.

Bernauer says 2012’s Rock ‘N Rodeo drew about 10,000 people. She expects more this year.
