Rick Malott is the new deputy fire chief at Essex Fire and Rescue Services.

Malott has 13 years of experience on the job. His career started as a volunteer firefighter in Amherstburg before moving to Essex. For the past three years, he’s served as the town’s fire inspector and public education officer. When Dan Smith left to become the new deputy fire chief with Quinte West Fire and Emergency Services, Malott was appointed interim assistant deputy chief.

Fire chief Ed Pillon welcomes Malott to the management team. “Our goal is to provide the community with the best possible fire and rescue services. Over the last several years, Rick has demonstrated a level of dedication and leadership that I believe will help us achieve that goal.”

His appointment was effective Monday. Until a replacement is hired, he’ll continue to serve as the fire inspector and public education officer.
