Care Meters Proposed for Downtown

The City of Windsor is looking into placing ‘care meters’ in the downtown core.

The meters would collect money to give to social programs that support the homeless, with the hope people would give to the meters instead of panhandlers.

Councillor Fulvio Valentinis says this would give people the support they need without resorting to panhandling. “The panhandling problem is a complicated one, it doesn’t have a quick fix. This is simply one small strategy in that direction. It also educates the public that we don’t want to encourage basically giving money out to specific panhandlers.”

A report will come back to Windsor Council within the next two months.
