Hundreds of Heinz workers have the opportunity to go to the Kingsville Folk Music Festival in Lakeside Park for free in August.

Organizers Michelle and John Law donated 800 tickets for the Saturday of the event that takes place August 8-10. “You know it just felt like the right thing to do,” says Michelle Law. “Our friends and neighbours are affected by the Heinz closure, and I know that the first thing that people do when they lose their job or money is tight, is you don’t go out to dinner, you don’t go out to hear music.”

The festival has lined up a long list of acts over the three days including Canadian folk singers Bruce Cockburn and Jane Siberry.

Law met with a number of officials to discuss impacts on the neighbourhood around Lakeside Park including parking that weekend. She doesn’t believe it will disrupt residents too much. “We just educate people,” she says. “People are going to park in the street. You know what? If you live in one of these houses, charge someone to park in your driveway. We’ll have lots of volunteers to help people to know where to park.”
